Due date: Sunday, August 24, 2025 at 11:59 pm
Points value: 15 points
Slack and other communication platforms are commonly used in professional settings. You will be using Slack throughout the semester to communicate with your classmates and with me.
Sign Up for Slack
The first thing you need to do is sign up for our Slack workspace. I also recommend downloading the app on your computer or phone for easy access.
Fill Out Your Profile
Choose a display name and upload an image to your profile.
Explore Slack Channels
Channels are ways of organizing conversations in Slack. Right now, we have the #general, #random, #troubleshooting, #assignments, and #679 channels:
- #general: You can post general conversations about the course here.
 - #random: If you want to share something with your classmates that is not directly related to this course, you can do so here. (We love pet photos!)
 - #troubleshooting: Do you have questions about HTML or CSS? Are you having trouble with finicky code? Add tech questions here.
 - #assignments: Check for assignment updates and post questions here.
 - #679: If you are taking the graduate section of this course, join this channel. (It is private; I will send you a link to join.)

We may add more channels as needed during the semester.
Post Your Introduction
In the #general channel, share a message to introduce yourself. Include your name, major/program, undergrad/grad, and where you’re from. Also, answer at least one of the following questions:
- What is the last song you listened to or the last book you read that you enjoyed?
 - What is your favorite currently running TV show?
 - What is something you want to learn in this course?

This is a great way to see who else is in English 573/679. Be sure to say hello to anyone you know! (P.S. You can post emojis and GIFs in Slack, too.)
