Chapter 4 Textbook Exercises

Due date: Sunday, September 7, 2025 at 11:59 pm

Points value: 10 points

After you have finished with the exercises in Chapter 3, it’s time to move on to Chapter 4.

Instructions for Chapter 4

In Chapter 4, we're going to learn about how to publish pages on the Internet. However—and this is important, so pay close attention—you don't have to worry about getting your own domain and hosting service. In fact, please don't. This topic is something we'll discuss in detail later this semester.

For this chapter, read pages 123 ("Getting Starbuzz or yourself onto the Web")–141 ("Earl needs a little help with his URLs") carefully so you know how websites work. This is key info, so make sure you're following along. Your assignment starts on p. 142 ("How do we link to other websites?"). From that point on in the chapter, follow the directions.

However, for the Chapter 4 exercises, do not use the files in the chapter4 folder you downloaded from the textbook website. Instead, do the following:

  1. Make a copy of your "chapter1" folder and name it "chapter4"
  2. Use the files you created for the Chapter 1 assignment (specifically, starbuzz/index.html, which you just copied into the new chapter4 folder) for the Chapter 4 textbook exercises starting on p. 142 ("How do we link to other websites?")

On p. 143 ("Linking to Caffeine Buzz"), the link in the text is no longer live. Use this one instead: https://web.archive.org/web/20180326214542/http://wickedlysmart.com/buzz/index.html. On p. 152, when you need an ID in the link, it will look very similar to the book's example. Use this URL: https://web.archive.org/web/20180326214542/http://wickedlysmart.com/buzz/index.html#Coffee.

Remember to let me know if you have any questions.
